Qualifications & Requirements for Certification
A brief synopsis of the
requirements for ABSS certification include:
1. Current certification or at least passed Part I of the examination
process by either the American Board of Neurological Surgery, or the
American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery in order to apply for Part I of
ABSS.
2. Successful completion of a twelve-month approved spine fellowship program, or
have resident training and experience deemed to be equivalent to a twelve-month
approved spine fellowship program.
3. Full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States or
Canada, or be engaged in full-time practice in the United States federal
government for which licensure is not required.
4. Approval for, and successful completion of the Part I Written & Part II Oral
Examinations of the ABSS.
