You may obtain a copy of the Handbook and Application Form in PDF format for the Part I Written Examination by clicking on the link. It is important to also get a copy of the Application Cover letter to assist you in preparing supporting documentation to accompany your application.

Application forms for the Part II Oral Examination may only be obtained by request from the Executive Office or call Mimi Eckert at 212-356-0682.

DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS:

Part I Written Examination:
    April 18, 2008 for examination period beginning June 14, 2008 and ending June 28, 2008
    September 5, 2008 for examination period beginning November 1, 2008 and ending November 15, 2008

Deadline for Part II Oral Examination is August 15, 2008.  The examination will be given at the NASS annual conference on October 13, 2008 in Toronto, Canada

Written Exam Preparation Materials

For those preparing for the Part I Written Examination, there is an annual Review Course offered by the American College of Spine Surgery.  The dates of the next Review Course will be May 2008.

The American Board of Spine Surgery has also produced a Core Curriculum of Spine Surgery which is a compilation of bibliography references to other publications.  The Core Curriculum outlines the topic areas that are covered by the written examination.  The Review Course offered by the American College of Spine Surgery is based on this list of topic areas.  Upon application for the Part I Written Examination, you may request a copy of the Core Curriculum at no charge.
